If you are a fan of Dick Grayson, then you know that Nightwing and Batgirl have developed a relationship over the years. But did you ever imagine a wedding could have been in their future? Me neither, especially since Robin and Starfire have been together ever since they kissed that first time. Nonetheless, the friction between Starfire and Barbara only fueled the flames between her and Dick.
So imagine to my delight after seeing the cover (Affiliate Link) of Convergence: Nightwing and Oracle, where we see Dick carrying Barbara wearing a wedding gown. Which seems pretty romantic, until you remember that she is paralyzed from the waist down and was probably being carried for practical reasons. Still, the romance is undeniable.
The story starts with Hawkgirl and Hawkman fighting Nightwing and Batgirl as she flies around in a helicopter. Why is she in a helicopter, out in the open? I have no idea, but it predictably crashes out of the sky. And, also predictably, she does not have a scratch on her. But beside death, what was the worse that could have happened? Paralysis?
There is also an appearance by Black Canary, who uses her scream inside a microphone to hurt Hawkgirl and Hawkman (yeah I know, I doubt that would work also) but who cares about her, right? We are here to see the love between Nightwing and Batgirl as they get married. At the end of the story, the two embrace before the stereotypical wedding shot we were all hoping to see. In my opinion, an issue like this should have been extra thick and extra long. Rather, it was the typical thirty-page story that we tend to overpay for these days.
All joking aside, you need to pick up the trade paperback if you are a fan of Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon. Not only does it include this story, but has the other Convergence pieces as well.
